The first Madison Debate Society public debate of the 2011-2012 year will happen Wednesday September 28, 2011 at 6:30pm in the Wilson Auditorium on the James Madison University campus. The Office of International Programs at JMU and the Madison Debate Society are co-sponsoring this event during International Week, the theme is What is the Middle East? http://www.jmu.edu/international/iweek/highlights.shtml#debate

We will host and participate in a long table format public debate on the question of social media, youth and change in the Middle East. The resolution for debate is Resolved: the Arab Spring demonstrates that American youth have much to learn from the youth of the Middle East and North Africa.
St. Johns University, Liberty University, James Madison University, University of Mary Washington and the University of Pittsburgh will be respresented in the public debate.

Dr. Brian Kaylor will moderate the debate and discussion session following the debate. Dr. Kaylor is an Associate Professor in Communication Studies at James Madison University; his research specializes in political communication, religious communication and digital media.
