October 9, 2009

Greetings:

Preparations are well under way for the Harvard Tournament to be held on Halloween weekend.  We write with a couple of announcements and one very important request.

First, since Halloween falls on Saturday this year, we think it only fitting that our traditional costume contest take place on Saturday.  Given the increased size of the tournament, we will take the extra time to power match round four.  A small snack will be provided during this break.  Judging for the costume contest will begin with the conclusion of round two and proceed through lunch and round three, ending with the power match break before round four.  Mapes got extra points for wearing his “Tinker Bell” costume –including the stilettos– all day!  Appropriate prizes will be awarded.

Second, we have for the first time secured wireless Internet access for all participants at the tournament on campus.  Required codes and passwords will be distributed at registration.  Unfortunately, the wireless reception at Sever Hall is sketchy since there is no wireless hub in the building.  However, surrounding buildings will have reliable access.

Third, final preparations are being made to the menu for the tournament and that will be posted next week.

Fourth, there are still ten teams on the wait list.  Several of them are anxious to make travel arrangements.  If you have teams entered that will not be attending, please drop them now.  Also, the hotel has sold all of the double-doubles and all of the rooms with king size beds and fold-out sofas.  If you have extra hotel rooms, please make them available to other schools currently on the wait list for the rooms.  You can do this by emailing or asking to speak to Gary Orswell at the Holiday Inn.

We look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks.
