The Roger Sherman Debate Society of Western Connecticut State University is pleased to invite you yet again to:

The Hat City Debates:

The Eastern Regional Championship
&
The NDT District 8 Qualifier

February 25 – 26, 2012

Our tournament will be held in the once and future hat-making capital of the world, Danbury, Connecticut.

We will be holding six rounds of cross-examination policy debate, using the 2011-2012 CEDA/NDT topic:

Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase its democracy assistance for one or more of the following: Bahrain, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen.

There will be switch-side debate in novice, junior varsity, and NDT divisions, using the CEDA/NDT requirements for division eligibility. We will run 9-3-6 debates with 10 minutes of prep time and full elimination rounds. We hope all judges will see fit to disclose their decisions at the end of the round, and also provide an oral critique of the round to further the educational aspect of debate.

The NDT Qualifier will follow the strict guidelines of District 8 NDT.

The Hat City Debates will also feature a world’s division. Entry fees are as follows:
- $95 per team of two for CEDA/NDT policy debate
- $95 per team of two for world’s debate

We will provide a limited judging pool, with a full-commitment (six rounds) judge for $160. Please remember that schools are expected to supply six rounds of qualified judging for every two teams entered. Note that NDT requirements are different and will be enforced as such.

World’s team/judge requirement is N-1, or a minimum of 1 for 1-2 entries as to the International practices.

Registration is to be emailed to debate@connect.wcsu.edu

We will be providing breakfast and lunch on both Saturday and Sunday with vegan meal choices. We look forward to seeing all who can attend. Please send in your preliminary entries as soon as possible!
