The Vikings are looking forward to hosting you in Rock Island this weekend.

Couple of administrative items to aware of:

We will be pre-setting the JV division for all prelims.  We have added one Augie team to avoid a bye and want to avoid having teams debate twice in the prelims.  Assuming no major changes, this division will break to semis and also recognize the top novice team.

Open entries are very tight.  If necessary, we will add one Augie team to avoid a bye.  Here are pairing options that are open for discussion:
1) preset all 6 (will cause skews, most efficient and easiest option)
2) preset first 4 - power last 2 (might cause serious skews - might not be that much different than presetting, but could create some delay)
3) preset first 2 - power last four (likely some lag pairing) but allow teams to debate teams for a second side, but on the opposite side....
If you have a strong preference, please let me know - majority rules.  If I don't hear from you prior to registration, I'll assume you trust the tab room's judgment.

Other items of interest:

1) Technology - Please instruct your squad to NOT unplug the technology in the classrooms.  We've had a problem with this in the past and it jeopardizes the tournament's ability to secure rooms on campus.  As an alternative, the tab room has extra power strips and extension cords for your convenience.

2) Arriving on Campus - you are welcome to arrive anytime, but please remember that classes will be in session until 4pm.  Please do not disturb the classrooms.  If you arrive early, please congregate quietly in the basement of Old Main.  Registration will begin at 2:30pm in the Augustana Debate Union, Old Main Room 19.  All rounds will be held in Old Main.

3) Judge Prefs – they're active, they’re due at noon tomorrow, but the sooner you can get them done, the better.

4) Parking on Campus - you may load / unload on the far west side of Denkmann Hall (away from Old Main).  You may park on 7th Avenue, or in Lot E (at the corner of 7th Avenue and 38th Street).

5) Dinner Friday Night - we will provide pizza for all competitors, coaches and judges on the first floor of Old Main following the completion of Round 1.  Please take advantage of this meal.

6) Judging - we are EXTREMELY tight on judging.  If you are interested in judging extra debates, please let Max know at Registration.

6) Please do NOT use the elevators in Old Main - they are old and prone to malfunction and we probably can't stop it from eating you.  There will be Augustana students available to assist you in moving your evidence - don't be bashful about asking for help.

If you have any questions, concerns or emergencies, please contact Max Archer at 281-381-7328 (cell) and 309-794-7717 (office).

That's it for now.  We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
