VISION

There has historically been a lack of attention given to the necessity of positive images of Black people in the United States as a remedy for the violence and self-destructive behavior of Black youth. The need for the development of a strong sense of cultural identity is often neglected, even though many scholars have concluded that this is a key component to the development of good mental health.

We aim to connect policy debate and social justice to the development of positive identity development for Black youth.

OVERVIEW

This institute is a national debate camp. This will provide best academic debate training from many of the most successful and experience debate instructors in the United States. We are unified around the theme of Black empowerment and social justice.

The students will be equipped with policy debate training that incorporates cultural and racial identity and a developed knowledge of structural social, political and economic issues. Students will produce policy briefs on the given policy debate topic for following academic year.

This camp would also holds the prestige of being the only national debate camp hosted and operated by a historically Black college/university in the United States.

The camp is taking place at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD from July 28th -to August 17th. It is open to young people from all over the United States. The length of the camp is three weeks.
