This is different than our debate job, but I thought some of you all might be interested.  Let me know if you have questions.  Kevin

Whitman College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Rhetoric Studies effective August 2014.

The term will be one year with the possibility of renewal. We seek an individual who demonstrates excellence as an instructor and whose research interest, graduate training, and/or college instructional experience is in rhetorical studies. Ph.D. by August 2014 required. The successful candidate will teach public speaking courses, the introductory rhetorical criticism course, and courses in rhetorical studies that complement the department's current offerings in areas such as critical/cultural studies, public memory studies, political rhetoric, rhetorical theory, visual rhetoric, movement studies, rhetoric(s) of space and place, argumentation and public culture, and race, class, gender, or queer rhetoric(s).

For full consideration, application portfolios must include the following materials: a letter of application as well as separate statements addressing the candidate's teaching interests and scholarly agenda; curriculum vitae; three letters of reference; graduate transcripts; and teaching evaluations or other evidence of demonstrated or potential excellence in undergraduate instruction. The application should address the candidate's interest in working at a liberal arts college with undergraduates, majors as well as non-majors, at all levels of instruction. In addition, because Whitman College is committed to cultivating a diverse learning community, the applicant should explain how his or her pedagogy would serve to create and sustain an inclusive learning environment.

To apply, go to https://whitmanhr.simplehire.com/, click "Faculty" and "Visiting Assistant Professor of Rhetoric Studies". Review of applications will begin on March 31, 2014 and continue until the position is filled. No applicant shall be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, gender, religion, age, marital status, national origin, disability, veteran's status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis prohibited by applicable federal, state, or local law. This institution offers benefits to both same-sex and different sex domestic partners. Whitman College, located in the scenic Columbia Basin, is a small, selective, liberal arts college dedicated to providing excellent educational opportunities for students.
