Job Description
The College of Communication and Information (CI) at the University of Kentucky is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Lecturer and Director of the University of Kentucky Intercollegiate Debate Team.  This is a renewable, non-tenure track, full-time faculty position. This person will also be expected to teach between one and two courses per academic year in the university's general education curriculum.  As Director of the Debate Team, the candidate will be expected to supervise a team coach and to travel with undergraduate debaters to regional and national tournaments.  The position also requires some administrative duties and oversight and coordination of debate events sponsored by the University of Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky is a comprehensive land-grant research university that is committed to excellence in teaching, research and outreach.  CI is a notable college at UK with several highly ranked academic specialty areas (e.g., health communication, risk communication, information sciences). The Kentucky Intercollegiate Debate program has a long history of success in competitive policy debate.  It consistently travels to national and regional tournaments and has regularly qualified for the National Debate Tournament.  Its annual high school tournament, the Tournament of Champions, is widely regarded as a national championship.

The CIS position requires an M.A. in Communication or a related field. The ability to teach courses in the general education communication and composition sequence, and experience administering high school and college debate tournaments, and debate workshops, preferred. Exceptional candidates with the PhD in Communication or the JD degree will be considered, with rank and title appropriate to qualifications.  Significant experience in intercollegiate (National Debate Tournament-style) or high school policy (Tournament of Champions/National Circuit-style) debate is required.  Candidates must have a valid driver’s license.

Review of applications will begin on October 23, 2014 and continue until the position is filled.  The start date for the position is negotiable, but the successful candidate should be prepared to start no later than August 15, 2015.  You may apply for this position at: http://ukjobs.uky.edu/postings/43979 For consideration, please submit a letter of application, a statement of instructional experience and philosophy, including experience with collegiate debate, and names and contact information for three references.
