The George Mason University, Department of Communication invites applications for an administrative faculty position to serve as the Assistant Director of Debate for the nationally recognized George Mason University Debate Program (to begin as early as June 10, 2015).

Responsibilities will include teaching one course per semester and one summer course, assisting debaters with the preparation of arguments, traveling with the team to tournaments, assisting with the administration of tournaments, assisting with student recruitment, Managing practice sessions, participating in team and staff meetings, and other duties as needed.  Participation in departmental governance and monthly department meetings is expected.

The person selected for this position will be joining a team of multiple coaches currently working with George Mason Debate.  Extensive policy debate experience and an M.A. are required; a Ph.D. is preferred.  Compensation is competitive and full benefits are included.

The George Mason University Debate Team competes at a variety of levels in policy debate at both regional and national tournaments.  The team is well-funded and coaching and other support is provided by several assistant coaches. We are fortunate to have a significant number of talented debaters and recruitment is helped by our ability to provide significant financial support to many of our debaters.  The Communication Department has a most collegial and distinguished faculty committed to excellence, innovation and social relevance.  We offer a broad undergraduate program with around a 1,000 undergraduate majors, and 100 M.A., and Ph.D. students focused on health and/or strategic communication.  For full consideration interested applicants should apply by April 15, 2015.

GMU has canceled their search for an ADoD, and is not filling the vacancy,  according to GMU's HR Department. Thought I would let those who have applied know, since it does not appear that information was distributed to candidates.
