Registration is now open for The NASA Astrobiology Debates Western Championship on October 17 & 18 at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington!  To register, go to www.NASADebates.org and click on “Debates.”

The NASA Astrobiology Debates present an unprecedented opportunity for the U.S. college debate community to promote academic debate as a method of civic engagement and knowledge production. The championship round of the Western Championship will be livestreamed and promoted on NASA social media to the global astrobiology and space sciences community as well as the world.  (NASA Facebook and Twitter each have over 12 million followers.) In addition, a panel of astrobiology thought-leaders drawn from across the nation will serve as judges for the final round via videoconference and in-person and the winning teams and debaters will be recognized on NASA social media.

Both teams advancing to finals and the top speaker at the tournament will win all-expense-paid study tours to continue their exploration of the NASA Astrobiology Debates topic firsthand.  Travel details are being finalized.  Potential destinations include the landing of the Insight Mission to Mars and a VIP tour to the Kennedy Space Center (located in Cape Canaveral near Orlando, Florida).

There are no entry fees.

The tournament is capped at 30 teams.  Schools wishing to enter more than three teams should contact the NASA Debates via the website.
