An alumnus of our program asked me to pass this information along. Please contact the emails within this call for more information.

Study Abroad Teaching Position

This is a paid position- as a substitute teacher. The Study Abroad teacher accompanies our group of students to China to study for one semester, September 2016- January 2017. The teacher is hired through EduStaff and helps our students with their online classes.
The students are enrolled in the South Redford School District's online program, S.O.A.R. The assigned teacher will meet with the students and work with them prior to leaving for China. The assigned teacher will learn how the online program works and how to assist the students in their online classes. The students also attend Chinese classes. This is the Chinese school: http://www.tsheducation.com/english/ShowArticle.asp?ArticleID=1698

The students will have their own classroom in China for their SOAR classes as well as other Chinese elective classes. The group will be traveling to Beijing at their own expense and it is $600, teacher expense is covered. There is weekend travel and home stays on the weekend with a host family.

Medical insurance has to be bought to cover any hospitalizations and it is about $20USD. A cheap Chinese cell phone must also be purchased and that is so the students and teacher can stay in touch with each other. It is about $60 per phone and maybe $20 per month for minutes and texting.

The teacher will be responsible for utilities in his/her apartment. The utilties are minimal. It is not like the US.Food in the cafeteria is covered for the teacher, but she/he can grocery shop and cook in the apartment. The climate is very hot and humid through October.

If anyone is interested send a letter of interest and resume with contact information to this email: theffgyc@gmail.com or elizabeth.kangas@southredford.com. Also, go to edustaff.org and complete the application process for South Redford School District.

I will forward it on to our human resource director. It is an amazing opportunity to work with teenagers and visit another country!

Please let me know if there are any questions!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Kangas
