I just saw this news from David Hingstman.

Bill Henderson, former director of forensics at the University of Northern Iowa [as well as former debate coach at the University of Houston, Houston Bellaire and Houston Jones high schools] passed away from cancer early Sunday morning. He was in hospice and died peacefully. There will be a celebration of life for him at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, to be scheduled by his colleague and friend Dr. Jon Hall, probably on October 23. He will be missed.

Very sorry to hear this, Bill was a friend since I can remember, always delightfully sardonic and conspiratorial funny. Many will not remember but Bill was a major figure in the development of American debate, at all levels from HS to Collegiate. His memory lives on through many..

Bill was a great guy who recognized the need to inspire students to achieve competitive success, and he balanced that with an understanding that students should be educated about policies and debate theory and should be ethical advocates. He welcomed me to UNI with open arms. He will be missed.

From Dr. Jon Hall:

There will be a celebration of life for Bill Henderson on Sunday, October 23 @ 2pm on the university campus in the Georgian Lounge

Those flying in may want to consider Cedar Rapids as an alternative to Waterloo. CR has multiple Airlines whereas Waterloo is served only by American via Chicago CR is 1-1/2 hours south of Waterloo.

Those wishing accommodations might consider COUNTRY INN AND SUITES, HILTON GARDEN INN, COMFORT INN and SUITES, BEST WESTERN AND CLARION, all in Cedar Falls.
