Position summary:
As Jesuit enters its school-wide  hiring season, we are looking for qualified candidates in various departments to fill an evolving number of full time teaching positions.  As we look for qualified candidates for those teaching positions, we are hoping to find someone who also could help us grow Jesuit’s full time policy debate coaching staff with the addition of a full time assistant debate coach.  If you are interested, please submit a cover letter and resume outlining your discipline expertise (Social Studies, Math, Language, etc) as well as interest in debate.

In addition to your teaching duties, an assistant coach would be expected to work with individual policy debaters throughout the week; to contribute to development and execution of arguments; and to support the maintenance and expansion of the varsity and novice debate team participation.  Jesuit Debate competes locally, regionally and nationally.  As an assistant coach, you will be expected to coach and judge at all levels of tournaments. Since the team does not have a competitive debate class during the course of the day, the assistant coach would be expected to participate fully in formal practices which occur after school.

Specific responsibilities
•   Full time faculty position as defined by the Principal such as teaching a full course load of academic classes
•   Attending 1-2 local, TFA State – qualifying tournaments a month
•   Attend 1 regional or national tournament a month
•   Attend all post season tournaments for which Jesuit qualifies teams including TFA State, JV and Novice Nationals and the NDCA National Championships.
•   Coach after school practices, dividing time between novice, JV and varsity practices
•   Develop and implement specific arguments, including writing and editing blocks.
•   Listen to practice speeches and debates
•   Help plan and execute community service events and one local debate tournament hosted at Jesuit.

In addition to debate coaching duties, an assistant coach would fill a full time faculty position as defined by the Principal.  This teaching load may also include other courses in the discipline you have training.  This teaching load may include a freshman level Rhetoric and Civics class required for all freshmen.  This course uses policy debate as a tool for introduction to research, argument and public speaking.

Qualifications
•   Bachelors degree or higher required [teaching certification is NOT required]
•   Experience with Policy Debate required
•   Familiarity with word, Verbatim and Stratus helpful

Please direct any questions to Tracy McFarland at tmcfarland@jesuitcp.org or Dan Lingel at dlingel@jesuitcp.org
