Director of Forensics (Assistant Professor, tenure-track)
« on: September 23, 2019, 11:53:08 AM »
California State University, Fresno has just opened a search for a tenure-track Director of Forensics at the rank of Assistant Professor (position announcement attached). The dean of the College of Arts & Humanities and our provost have shown substantial support for the forensics program in approving a tenure-track position that focuses on coaching debate - because of the way that our debate classes are weighted, the standard 4/4 teaching load in the CSU system would generally be covered by 2 debate classes per semester (all debaters enroll in these courses), with assistance from graduate TA coaches.

We want to build a nationally competitive NDT/CEDA program on the foundation of a regionally successful team, and we're seeking a Director with exceptional debate coaching experience who will also supervise a nascent individual events program with the assistance of other staff. Fresno State has an extremely diverse student body, with the university recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and an Asian American/Native American/Pacific Islander-Serving Institution, and this diversity is central to the university's mission, the values of our department, and our forensics program.

The position announcement is attached, and as the chair of the department, I'm happy to answer administrative questions about the debate program, the Department of Communication, and the position (email: kjayotte@csufresno.edu). Questions about the search itself should be directed to Douglas Fraleigh (douglasf@csufresno.edu), the chair of the search committee, who can also address questions about the debate program at Fresno State. Full consideration date for applications is October 25, 2019
