Just wanted to let everyone know I've updated my philosophy regarding the 100 point spread. Based on the trends in points at 100 point tournaments I've attended and the discussion on edebate I’m changing how I distribute points on the 100 point scale. As before, if a tournament publishes guidelines, I'll follow them. If not, in the interest of having some sort of meaningful and close to consensus scale (and not hurting debaters by bucking point inflation trends), I will use the scale proposed by JP:

Average = 85
Clearing (barely) = 87
Clearing high in your not undefeated bracket = 90
Getting a top twenty speaker award = 92
Getting a top ten speaker award = 93
Getting a top five speaker award = 94
Top Speaker = 96
