West Georgia Tournament
Oct  1 – Oct 3, 2010

This year West Georgia will be hosting in the fall, offering competition in Open, JV and Novice. This tournament is to supplement the Varsity tournament at Northwestern. We’re excited to travel to Athens for the UGA tournament during our usual January date. While this tournament was designed to meet the needs of our region, teams from any schools are welcome to attend!
We plan to offer 6 prelims with appropriate elimination rounds based on the entry numbers in each division on a Friday – Sunday format. Most meals will be provided by the tournament.
Contact Sarah Lundeen at sholbrook.debate@gmail.com with any questions!

Entry: Please finalize entries before Monday September 27, 2010. Novice division participants should be in their first year of debate, JV in their first two years of competition, Open is open to all participants. We encourage experienced novices to debate up in jv to allow true rookies an early season tournament.

Fees: Our goal is to keep costs down to encourage debate in all divisions. $35 per person will still cover 4 meals and low-cost awards. So one team with one judge is $105, two teams with one judge is $175 and so on. New, emerging, struggling, broke programs please contact us for fee reductions. We can accept cash, personal or institutional checks. Ideally, checks should be made out to Mike Hester so he can pay for your meals, if you need institutional check information please contact Sarah.

Judging: Each team entered will require a judge to hear 3 debates so one judge can cover two teams. Please be sure to indicate what level of debate each judge should hear. Preferences will be honored in all divisions, details released once entries are finalized. There may be very limited hired judging available through the tournament for $30 a round, contact us immediately if you will need it. Preferably, you can just use the new hired judge system on debateresults to work it out yourselves.

Housing: There are several reasonably prices alternatives in Carrollton. Always mention you are attending a University of West Georgia event, many will offer extra discounts. If housing costs would prevent you
from attending please contact us for possible housing arrangements.

Carrollton is about 45 miles west of Atlanta. Once at campus follow Campus Loop around to the back of campus to the Humanities Quad. There will be ample parking available right at the Quad and all debates will take place in the 3 buildings located there.
The Atlanta airport is about an hour away and Birmingham about 2 hours. In VERY limited circumstances we may be able to assist with transport to/from the Atlanta airport, or at least put you in touch with shuttle services, contact Sarah directly.
From Atlanta/East
Travel I-20 West to Villa Rica/UWG Exit 24 and turn left (west) onto Hwy. 61. Travel about 12 miles to Hwy. 166 (Carrollton South Bypass) and turn left onto the 166 Bypass where Grace Lutheran Church will be on the right. (Other landmarks to watch for before you reach the light at Hwy. 166 include Richard Haney Ford and Ryan's Steakhouse on the right and McDonald’s, Zaxby’s and Longhorn Steak House on the left.) On the 166 Bypass, travel to the 6th traffic light. A CVS will be on the corner. At that light, turn right onto Maple Street (also Hwy. 166). UWG will be on the left about 6/10 of a mile along Maple Street.
From Birmingham/West
Travel I-20 East to Bremen/UWG Exit 11 (Old exit 3), turn right (South) and follow Hwy. 27 South into Carrollton, turn right onto Maple Street (Hwy. 166) . UWG will be on the right approximately 2 miles.
