Topic and business meeting logistics & agenda
« on: June 02, 2011, 10:47:08 AM »
Greetings all,

We are just about a week away from the business and topic meetings.

The business meetings are next Friday. The topic meetings are schedule for Saturday, Sunday and Monday (morning). We will only use Monday morning if we cannot complete the agenda in the prior time. The topic meetings are scheduled to begin at 9:30 am each morning.

All of the meetings will be held at the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan (735 South State Street, Ann Arbor MI 48109-3091). The business meeting room is TBA and the topic meetings will be held in the Betty Ford Classroom.

If you are attending any of the sessions and would like campus internet access you have to email Aaron Kall in advance. akall at umich.edu

Finally, we will be compiling the topic meeting agenda this weekend. The deadline for wording papers is tomorrow, so please let me know if you would like to submit anything for the agenda.

Thanks
Gordon

We are working to provide blog coverage, but I don't expect the meetings to be webcasted.

This is a last call for getting internet access on campus. Aaron Kall is turning in the list tomorrow (Tuesday). After that submission it will not be possible to get a login this weekend. This is the current list of folks who have submitted for access.

Thanks to Whit for the webcasting help.

We will be updating our working agenda and keeping it constantly updating at
https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1bw8r0PqaYnqiCWuQAab0doOsTxHxxOYkTC1q_ysKmRQ

The items on this agenda are starting points produced from the wording papers and community discussion. They are not final decisions, but they do represent an effort to guide the meetings.

We start at 9:30 on Saturday morning.

In addition to the recent agenda, here are two visualizations that may help folks follow the mechanism wording and country selection.

Please let me know if there are issues with sound.

No worries if you can't see the projections. Gordon has posted those to the forum.

This is a shared google spreadsheet of the countries still under consideration. We will use this to build the lists this afternoon.

Was Jordan intentionally left off the list or was that accidental?

Intentional. The Jordan report was pretty adamant about not including it because the US allies debate was better represented by other nations.

Hey, one last push for Jordan, though it seems like the topic committee has made up their minds. Kuwait was debated on last year's high school topic so the educational value that we gain from considering Kuwait is inherently less than including a country like Jordan (another U.S. ally) that has rarely if ever been debated thoroughly.
