The Boston Debate League seeks a passionate urban educator to work with and report to the After-School Debate League (ASDL) Coordinator to support the ASDL, home of BPS' competitive debate teams. This position is ideal for a hard-working candidate interested in gaining on-the- ground experience in a variety of aspects of a thriving non-profit organization by administering one of the largest after-school programs in Boston.   Throughout the summer institute, after- school seminars, and student leadership workshops, the Program Manager will hone direct instructional skills while working alongside other talented educators. School visits and frequent interactions with local teachers will build a broader sense of challenges facing education reformers in Boston, and the selected candidate will need to use this understanding to successfully craft recruitment pitches and plan appealing events. Finally, as liaison to the BDLís hundreds of volunteer judges, the Program Manager will be responsible for exposing individuals from widely different backgrounds to the potential and passion of Bostonís young people. In short, the position is a fast-paced introduction to the complex, rewarding world of education reform.

The core mission of the Program Manager will be deepening the impact of debate in the BDLís member schools. The average high school team in the BDL has sent 38 debaters to at least one debate tournament this year, and more than twenty to at least three tournaments. While these numbers are big improvements over the year before, we know we can do better.

The ideal candidate is a former debater who has either debated in an urban debate league while in high school or volunteered in one while in college.

Full position description is attached. If you have any questions, please contact Steve Stein -  steve@bostondebate.org
