Director, Debate

General Summary
The Director of Debate (DOD) at Illinois State University will be primarily responsible for the direction, planning, coordination, and development of the debate squad at ISU, under the supervision of the Director of Forensics (DOF). In addition to providing classroom instruction, the DOD will supervise assistant and graduate student coaches, supervise undergraduate team members, coach individual and team competitors before and during tournaments, hold weekly meetings with the DOF as well as the assistant coaches and team members, direct the Summer Debate Institute, coordinate press releases, compile annual reports, be responsible for the disbursement and reimbursement of tournament travel funds, plan and assist in fundraising efforts, assist the DOF in alumni relations, maintain team morale, travel to tournaments, and judge at tournaments when necessary.

This position is a 9 month position (August 16th - May 15th)

Required Qualifications
Education and experience:
-Master's Degree in Communication or equivalent field.
-4 years experience in intercollegiate policy debate either as a debater or a coach.
-1 year experience in undergraduate classroom instruction

Skills:
- Excellent management, organizational, and communication skills
- Have a professional, personable and mature attitude
- Ability to make independent judgments regarding priorities and resolutions

The Director of Debate must be a self-starter, make significant decisions, and be able to take responsibility for planning projects and for seeing them through to completion.

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in recruiting
- Knowledge of procedures for administering the budget, generating travel vouchers, room scheduling and arranging travel
- Computer skills including proficiency in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and web skills
- Ability to use discretion regarding confidential matters
