I thought this was posted awhile ago on Tabroom. Apparently not. I apologize for the lateness. Please contact me if there are questions or concerns.

Dates 11/16/2012 – 11/18/2012

POLICY DIVISIONS: We will be hosting Novice, JV, and Open divisions following CEDA guidelines and will follow a 9-3-6-10 format using the national CEDA/NDT topic for the 2012-2013 season. Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially reduce restrictions on and/or substantially increase financial incentives for energy production in the United States of one or more of the following: coal, crude oil, natural gas, nuclear power, solar power, wind power. We will allow swing teams to participate as needed and will allow mavericks to compete only after all other possibilities have been exhausted, no more than one per division. Both will be eligible for elimination rounds. We will use a 30 point scale, allowing for tenth of a decimal place, and NO TIES between debaters in the same round. We will follow CEDA’s Council of Tournament’s directions for best practices unless otherwise stated within the invite. Vik Keenan will be responsible for tabbing the Rutgers tournament.

For Friday:
REGISTRATION: Registration for the policy divisions should be done via

$45 per person in attendance. Checks should be made out to “Rutgers-Newark.” In the spirit of participation, teams with small budgets should ask for a fee reduction/waiver depending on their needs.

Uncovered Team:
$30 per round (this however cannot be waived as we need every available judge). We encourage schools to donate extra rounds if possible and/or list themselves as available for hire on tabroom.

We will be accepting registration up until the Wednesday (11/14/12) before the tournament at 6pm. Any changes after that time should be phoned in to 845-978-1173 and/or e-mailed to as they occur. Entries should include the names of debaters and which divisions, as well as a list of judges. We will do our best to accommodate late drops but reserve the right to charge as necessary to cover expenses that take place after Thursday (11/15/12) at 5pm EST.

The hotel prices on-line though sites like or are still cheaper than any group rate available.

At the moment the best hotel deal I can find is:
Hampton Inn Linden
501 West Edgar Road
Linden, NJ 07036
Over the phone: $129 a night plus tax. $101/night  For New Jersey schools you can submit your tax waiver and remove the taxes. Deadline to reserve rooms is - 11/1/2012

The hotel is 15 minutes away. The hotel comes with an all you can eat hot breakfast in the morning and it’s included in the price. At night, the hotel shares the same complex with a Chevys Fresh Tex-Mex, Applebee’s, Starbucks, Burger King, Dragonfly, and Quiznos. All within 2 minutes walking distance of the hotel. There’s even a Home Depot if you need it!!

That said I have three other recommendations

First is the hotel at Newark Penn Station that is a three-minute drive to campus or those who wish to use public transit campus it is two stops from Penn Station on the Newark Light Rail.

Hilton Newark Penn Station
1048 Raymond Boulevard
Newark, NJ 07102
(973) 622-5000

Just a few more to point you in the right direction:

Hampton Inn & Suites‎
100 Passaic Avenue
Harrison, NJ 07029
(973) 483-1900
Quoted over the phone: $129-139. $110/night

Best Western Plus Robert Treat Hotel
50 Park Place
Newark, NJ 07102

There is a ton of availability that I’m finding cheaper online.
