Doversity, Judging, and Prefs at UNLV
« on: October 10, 2013, 04:04:45 PM »
Based on recommendations from Adam Symonds and Gabe Murillo, in order to maximize diversity in judging, the UNLV Tournament will be using the following system for judge preference:

1. We'll use a 4 category system rather than ordinals. Teams will be required to rank minimum 30% of all judging rounds as 1, 20% as 2, and a maximum of 20% as strikes. Conflicts don't count against any of the percentages, they stand outside the system.

2. Order of placement will be 1-1, 2-2, then 1-2. 3-3 matchups will only be placed if no other placement is possible or if teams have been eliminated from outround potential. In practice, Open division teams will primarily see 1-1 and some 2-2 matchups. JV/Novice will likely see 3-3 matchups.

3. We will aggressively place high commitment judges in the presets, even where that means lower overall preference.

4. If a more diverse judge is available and within a reasonable range of mutuality/preference then we'll place them.

5. In elims, we'll juggle the panels to make sure that every panel has some diversity.

We look forward to seeing you all in Las Vegas very soon!
