Full-time, contract position (possibility for renewal) as Instructor or Assistant Professor of Communication Studies and Assistant Director of Debate available August 15, 2014. Primary instructional responsibilities include teaching such Communication Studies courses as public speaking, argumentation and debate, business and professional communication, political communication, rhetorical criticism, as well as other classes as assigned by the department chair.  Primary Service responsibility will be assisting the Director of Debate (planning, budgeting, evaluating, recruiting, coaching, operating and attending tournaments, etc.); Other service responsibilities include contributing to the intellectual and professional life of the Department of Communication Studies and serving on departmental, college, and university committees as needed.  Other duties as assigned.  Teaching load is 3 classes (9 hours) in both the Fall and Spring semester; potential for Summer teaching. During the academic year, ΒΌ of the load will consist of working with the Debate team.  Renewal is not automatic but depends upon excellent performance, budgetary considerations, and the needs of the university.

Ball State University debate participates in NEDA, Public Forum, and Worlds-style debate.  Applicants should be dedicated to enhancing and coaching public debate. 
Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in Communication Studies or related field by August 1, 2014; teaching experience on the college level in undergraduate classes and evidence of excellence in teaching; at least two years of experience as a college debate coach.   

Preferred qualifications: Doctorate in Communication Studies or related field.  Rank is commensurate with qualifications.
