Boston Debate League-Volunteer Coordinator

The Boston Debate League seeks a dynamic and passionate full-time Volunteer Coordinator to help develop and grow the After-School Debate League (ASDL) volunteer program. This position is ideal for a hard-working candidate interested in gaining on-the-ground experience in a variety of the development aspects of a thriving non-profit organization by supporting one of the largest after-school programs in Boston. Reporting to the Director of External Engagement, the Volunteer Coordinator would be responsible for:

•   Recruiting and training professionals, community members, and students to volunteer with the BDL.
•   Managing and cultivating key relationships and partnerships with varying institutions that are interested in volunteering.
•   Identifying staffing needs for debate tournaments and special events and matching volunteers to fit those needs.
•   Working closely with the ASDL team to ensure effective training.
•   Supporting and stewarding volunteers as they became more engaged with the organization.
•   Identifying and organizing volunteer appreciation events.
•   Creating programs to develop and maintain long-lasting relationships with all volunteers.
•   Performing other duties supporting the organization as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

•   Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral presentation skills; the ability to understand and translate information to any audience.
•   A sophisticated relationship builder, who can communicate and clearly articulate the mission of the BDL by demonstrating its values, achievements, activities, and potential, and earn the respect of all the constituencies of the BDL community.
•   The ability to quickly compose clear and concise messages for public relations and community outreach purposes.
•   Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel; basic knowledge of Salesforce desirable.
•   A strong work ethic; a willingness to commit to a task(s) and follow-through; enthusiasm for a fast-paced work environment within a growing non-profit organization.
•   High degree of initiative, discretion, maturity, and a willingness to contribute as needed.
•   Experience managing and prioritizing multiple tasks.
•   Ability to work both independently and within a team.
•   An outgoing and positive personality and sense of humor.
•   Bachelor’s degree and two years related work experience.
•   Proficiency in Spanish preferred, but not required.
