Job Title: Debate Coach Revised: May 2014
Status: Non-Exempt Part-Time (25%), 9 month schedule Anticipated salary of $10,000/year
Reports To: Director of Student Activities
Overview: Provides instruction, expertise and oversight to the Augustana Debate team. Works
collaboratively with team members to provide a high quality experience that supplements overall learning outcomes.
Job Duties:
Coordinates and supervises practice debates and training sessions, providing robust feedback to improve skills.
Coordinates research and practicum assignments to develop growth in the areas of performance, research and competitive strategy.
Travels to and from scheduled tournaments, providing on-site judging and coaching. Supervises students and ensure high standards of conduct during tournaments and travel.
Oversees and manages Augustana hosted tournaments.
Participates in team meetings and serves as a liaison with other campus colleagues.
Meets with prospective students interested in the Augustana Debate program. Follows up with potential members as needed.

Education& Experience:
BA Degree Required. Experience coaching high school or college debate is highly preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated interest in collegiate debate with an understanding of the mission and culture of a private liberal arts college.
Ability to create, implement, and evaluate a yearly plan of activities for the debate program.
Ability to lead a program of veteran and novice debaters with limited supervision.
Ability to coach both novice and veteran debaters and ability to adapt the coaching style to meet the needs of a diverse program.
Ability to work to high productivity standards with limited supervision.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 10 pounds on an occasional basis.
Additional Requirements:
Successful applicants will be required to pass a criminal background check.
A valid driver's license and insurability under the College's fleet safety program is required
