Thoughts and condolences to the Matheny family...SO many memories of Doc are running through my brain. What a hero! Gone but never forgotten!

Two Davids--Matheny and Zarefsky--shaped my career and life path. Mentors, role models and friends. But only one of these Davids was well-versed in Bill James and sabermetrics. I'll let you guess which one.

He was the first person to ever judge me in a college debate. And he was more kind than I deserved.

The day started a bit chilly, dad would have had a few choice words. Headed to the cemetery where the sun was shining, and although the wind was cold, I was surrounded by the warmth of tremendous love and support. Dad's service was perfect and I know he was happy. To Bill, Marvin Cox, Tom Kathy Burkholder, Kenna Pearson Reeves, Pam McComas and Joshua Longbottom, dad would have said "done good." Thank you, thank you, thank you.
