This sad bit of news from Darren Elliot just popped up in my email:
Extremely sad. KCKCC Debate Alum, who recently began coaching our teams and was to travel to the TX Swing as a coach and judge, Aaron Thomas was in a fatal car accident today. Aaron was also a Debate Kansas City UDL alum and assistant coach at Lincoln Prep. I am shocked. He was a gifted young man who had such passion for learning and helping young debaters succeed. He was so excited about the upcoming Texas trip. Hold your loved ones a little bit tighter tonight. RIP. #bluedevilfamily

He was one of the good ones for sure. My thoughts are with his friends and family both in the debate community and beyond

How sad -- I'm glad he was able to touch so many lives in such a short time.

It was an honor to work with Aaron in high school, and I was incredibly proud to see what he did after. I'm very sad tonight.

Aaron Thomas, today is the first time in my life I didn't smile when I heard your name. You had such a good soul and were always so much better to me than I deserved. My middle school kids told me that you made them feel much better about themselves and debate. Rest in peace, thank you for showing the rest of us how to do it. If you love somebody, let them know.

I don't have the words to describe what was lost with Aaron Thomas gone. So much done, but so much more to do.
