2016 Hurricane Debates Packet

1. Prefs & Pairings - Prefs are due at 3pm. Pairings for Rounds 1-4 in Varsity & Novice Rounds 1-3 are at 5:30pm

2. Registration - There is NO IN PERSON registration. Enjoy some time in Miami while you are prepping. You can confirm on site on Tabroom or let me or Stefan know. My phone number is 305.487.1677. If there any changes please let us know ASAP.

3. Payment - You can now pay your entry fees with any major credit card. Just go here: and select "Hurricane Debates" from the "Payment Category" option. Important: please FORWARD ME a copy of your receipt to so I have a copy.

You can still pay with a check, made out to "UM Debate", or cash. Find us in the Tabroom, CIB 2056, on Monday to pay.

5. Competition Rooms, Tabroom & Work Room

a. Competition Rooms -- The Varsity rooms will be in the School of Communication in two buildings that are connected to each other. The WCB is the Wolfson Classroom Building which is closest to the courtyard. Connected on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors is CIB or Communication International Building. The Novice rooms are in the Memorial Classroom Building, which is the long, white rectangular building that is the first one past CIB.

b. Tabroom - CIB 2056, the UM Debate room.

c. Work Room - CIB 2055 - if you have rounds off and need a room with tables and power to work.

6. Accessibility

a. Gender Neutral Bathroom - Memorial 122

b. Quiet Room - CIB 2058

c. Breastfeeding Room - Memorial 109

d. Construction -- There will be some construction taking place on the other side of WCB where the debates take place. This shouldn't interrupt debates but does take out one of the elevators. There is an elevator in CIB which connects to the 2nd thru 4th floor of WCB so all competition rooms are accessible. All debates in Memorial are on the 1st floor and are accessible.

7. Amenities on Campus

a. Vending Machines - the closest ones are across from Memorial 112

b. Starbucks - it is open in the Shalala Student Center everyday from 7am to 6pm. You can drink it sitting outside by the lake!

c. Food Court -- there are several dining options open during the tournament, including Subway, Panda Express, Pollo Tropical, etc. To see the hours, go here:
