Towson University seeks Director of Debate

Towson University is accepting applications for a Director of Debate in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. This position directly oversees the day-to-day activities of the Debate Team at Towson University in accordance with the Debate Team Handbook. Advocate for and advise Debate students. Provide leadership for the long-term success of Debate at Towson University. The Director of Debate is a full time regular position.

The Director of Debate is responsible for supervising, managing and mentoring the Debate Team. Responsible for the training and development of the argumentative skills that debaters require. Works directly with the students on the debate team providing coaching, attending at least 6 tournaments per semester; communicating to students the criteria (as outlined in the team handbook) that must be met to travel to each tournament. Assisting students in the development of a variety of strong affirmative and negative positions. Overseeing the Exhibition/On-Campus Debate team and Forensics presence. Leading the administration of tournaments.

Master's degree and at least three years of national-level competitive debate experience. Superior communication skills. Exceptional organizational, managerial, and budgetary skills; must be detail-oriented, accurate, and precise. A very strong work ethic, supported by commitment and follow-through. Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. A reputation for the highest ethical standards. Ability to clearly and passionately convey the mission of the TU Debate Team to a wide variety of audiences. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must travel with the Debate Team. Supervise staff (coaches). Prefer experience conducting debate workshops and/or summer camps. A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
