I recall him as a consummate gentleman who never had an unkind word for anyone. Great tribute, Al!

Thanks for the lovely post. I first met Prof. Z when I debated at Wayne State's Debate Days in Detroit Tournament. What a remarkable innovation that I still wish existed today. He was always incredibly gracious and took time for students, even from other programs. A first class guy!

Absolutely! Well said Alan. In our times now the notion of decency is one we could all remember. George will never be forgotten.

In my tenure, in the very top tier of the greats. Smart, genuine and kind. A true loss. Thankful at my core to have known him.

Eloquent tribute. Generations of debaters have become not just better competitors but better people thanks to his wisdom. His legacy lives on.

I'd take a panel of Cross, Strange, Ziegelmueller any day.

Oh, no!!! I coached with George at Wayne State while getting my masters degree from 1983 to 1985. He showed true strength after his wife, Ellie, died during that time. I hadn't seen him in 20 years, but always stayed in contact. Thanks for the post, Allan.
