Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the University of Oklahoma Shannon Self Honors College Policy Debate Team, we are honored to invite you to attend the 1st Josh Lee Honorary Debate Tournament at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.  The tournament will be held on November 5-7, 2010.  (Friday-Sunday)
We are excited to host our friends from the debate community on our campus and will do our best to provide you with the best hospitality possible.  Our goal is to make sure you have a great time and to keep you coming back each year.  If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us.
There will be very few changes made to the honorary Joe. C. Jackson tournament usually held on this weekend..
We will offer a full-service tournament with breakfast on Saturday and Sunday as well as lunch on Saturday.  We will offer a full bevy of awards, including gift bags with speaker awards and the Doug Duke Excellence In Coaching Award.  We will also offer MUTUAL PREFERENCE JUDGING IN ALL DIVISIONS.
The Josh Lee will features six preliminary rounds of debate in open, junior varsity, and novice divisions.  The tournament will follow the CEDA rules for eligibility to compete in each division.  We will use the standard 9-3-6 time limit format with 10 minutes of cumulative preparation time.

Topic:  We will be debating the 2010-2011 CEDA National Debate Topic.
Judging:  We will utilize mutual preference judging, which will be accessed and entered at Each team must supply judging.  One team will require 3 rounds of judging.  One judge can cover two teams and all judges are committed for one round past the point where their teams are eliminated.  All judges are committed for the first elimination round on Sunday morning. 
Sexual harassment: The Josh Lee is a CEDA sanctioned tournament and will adhere to the CEDA statement on sexual harassment. The statement will be enforced throughout the tournament.
Awards: All teams clearing to elimination rounds will receive awards and we will give an appropriate number of speaker awards for each division, depending on their size.  This year we will also present the first annual Doug Duke Excellence in Coaching Award.  This award will recognize one coach as voted upon by the OU Debate Team for superior excellence in coaching and education.  This award is in recognition of our late good friend, Coach Doug Duke.
Fees: The fee for a covered team is $90.00.  The fee for a team without judging is $200.  We have very limited judging for hire and we want your judges not your money.  To the extent that it is possible, we strongly encourage you to hire your own judges.  Make checks payable to University of Oklahoma.

Tournament Administration: The tab room will be run by OU Coaches Jason Russell and Blake Johnson.
Rules: Each judge must assign a win and a loss for each round within 2.5 hours from scheduled start time or the tab room will determine a winner by coin toss.
District III NDT Meeting: The time will be 2:00 on Friday during registration.
Hotel:  The tournament hotel is the Sooner Legends Inn & Suites.  The room rate is guaranteed at $79.00 – 89.00, which is cheaper than most tournaments.  The room block expires on October 20.  The group rate can be found under the OU Debate Tournament Block -  DEBATEIC (More information below) Wireless internet is included.   
Rooms have either one king or two queen size beds  Buffet will be available before parings are released on Saturday and Sunday.  There are both smoking and non-smoking rooms.  Be advised that the hotel staff has no problem charging you a smoking fee if you smoke in a non-smoking room.
