Val Browning Round Robin Invitation

The Val will be held in conjunction with the Rupp Invitational at Idaho State (9.25-9.27).  We call it the "Wasatch Swing" 

Dear Colleagues,

The 89 year old Weber State University Debate Team in Ogden, Utah is pleased to invite you to attend the 16th Annual Val Browning Round Robin.   We are looking forward to hosting you in beautiful Ogden, Utah.  The tournament specifics are detailed below:

Lodging:   The Ogden Marriot will be the location for the tournament – all rounds will be in the Marriot.  We encourage you to stay at the Marriot.  Call in and just ask for the group code “RRDRRDA” or simply click this link:

The quad rate is $85.00 and the block is available until September 8th.  We will be debating in the beautiful, and recently remodeled, conference rooms of the Ogden Marriot.

Travel:  Weber State Debate is happy to offer the following amenities for our non-D2 guests  at NO cost:

            1.  We will pick you up at SLC Airport

            2.  We will transport you to Ogden, then Pocatello.

            3.  We will make sure you get back to SLC airport.

Judging Requirement:  One judge per team unless it places an undue burden on a team’s budget.  Contact with any questions.

Please do not disclose your decision after the debate as we will read the results in dramatic fashion at the awards luncheon on Friday!

Entry Fees: 

            1.  If you are not from District II, your entry fees are waived.

            2.  If you are from District II, the entry fee is $125 per term.

            3.  If your program is facing difficult financial times, you can exchange labor power for money – email to make an arrangement regarding judging.

Thursday, September 23

10:00 AM:         Round 1

12:00 PM:         Lunch @ Bistro 258

2:00 PM:           Round 2

4:00 PM:           Round 3

6:00 PM:           Round 4

9:00 PM:           Coaches' Time @ OG's House.

Friday, September 26

10:00 AM:         Round 5

12:00 PM:         Awards Luncheon @ Jasoh’s

2:00 PM:           Ground Transportation leaves for Pocatello

Additional Information:

1.  Glenn Frappier, from Gonzaga University, is the Tab Room Director.

2   The two pods will be balanced as best as possible and will be released at 800 PM on the 22nd.

3.  After round 5, we will rank all team by: W/L, head to head, adjusted points, double adjusted points, and then dice throw.

4.  The top three teams, along with the top five speakers, will be receiving very nice trophies!

5.  We will be awarding the Val A Browning ‘Coach of the Year’ award to someone very special.
