Two quick items.

First, please review the CEDA points standings available on Report any inaccuracies by Tuesday, March 17.

PR @ CEDA Nationals

Just a quick update on the plans for PR at this year's CEDA Nationals.

We have a class of communication students who will be producing a lot of material, including press releases prior to the tournament, press releases during the tournament (for awards and results), feature stories on the tournament and some award recipients and participants, and broadcast packages promoting the tournament.

If you will attend BUT do not want to be included, please let me know.

2014-2015 Resolution

Resolved: The United States should legalize all or nearly all of one or more of the following in the United States: marihuana, online gambling, physician-assisted suicide, prostitution, the sale of human organs.

CEDA Ballot Now Available

The ballot is now available at:

The ballot is due by midnight (central), December 16, 2014.

CEDA membership is required to vote (current or 2013-2014).

You will need an account on the main CEDA site in order to access the ballot. In addition, the account must be marked as eligible to vote. Please let me know if you need an account set up so you can vote. Those receiving this email have accounts that are eligible to vote.

Reporting inappropriate conduct

CEDA has two positions designed to support individuals who are subject to inappropriate conduct.

The Professional Review Board (PRB) of the Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) reviews complaints and submits recommendations to the CEDA President regarding appropriate sanctions.

Allison Harper, Beth Schueler and Paul Mabrey have created a college policy debate survey to better understand demographics of the college policy debate community and attitudes toward contemporary college policy debate practices. The survey is targeted for current or former college policy debaters, coaches, graduate students and alumni. The link is below. Please consider taking the survey and sharing with others to complete the survey. The survey should take only 10-15 minutes. If you have any questions, please contact Paul Mabrey.

Topic Announcement

Resolution 1 (US Legalize Core) has been selected for the 2014-2015 season. 75 schools voted. The final count was 47 first-place votes. All four amendments passed. A full breakdown of the votes and the list of schools that voted is below.

Amendment 1 (novice definition) passes 58-13.
Amendment 2 (JV eligibility, prior rounds) passes 57-11.
Amendment 3 (JV eligibility, jv nats) passes 54-16.
Amendment 4 (CEDA host fee) passes 67-4.
